2022 Syrah, The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater AVA – 93 points and Editors Choice!
This isn’t a wine looking to overpower you. It is a well-executed, lighter-bodied Syrah with a crisp texture, lots of flavor and lights-out acidity. It begins with earthy oregano, sage and duff aromas. Then a giant blackberry aroma emerges like the Great Pumpkin, followed by specks of chalkboard dust. Blackberry and Sumatran coffee notes rule the flavor roost. — Michael Alberty
2022 Chardonnay Clone 95, Eola-Amity Hills AVA – 92 points
The flinty aroma of just-extinguished candle drifts up from the glass, followed by notes of lemon verbena tea, saline and wet stones. After the mineral show, the Chardonnay opens up with flavors of lemon, thyme and juniper berries. I loved the wine’s crisp, peppery texture and the kind of acidity that reminds me of chewing on lemon peels as a kid. — Michael Alberty
2022 Cooper Block Single Clone Pommard Pinot Noir, McMinnville AVA – 92 points
A set of aromas featuring raspberries, lemon, mint and basil is like strolling the British countryside, Pimms Cup in hand. Black cherry, lavender water, clove cigarette and orange zest flavors are backed by silky tannins and zingy acidity. The wine’s fresh and lively texture is quite invigorating. This winemaker possesses a deft touch. — Michael Alberty
